Heavy security presence at Parliament ahead of sitting [Video+Photos]

Parliament is currently under tight security ahead of sitting today, October 22, 2024.

Access to the Chamber will officially begin at 08:00 hours, allowing MPs and staff ample time to pass through security screening before the proceedings begin.

However, the premises of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) where the sitting will take place is already being monitored by armed personnel from various security agencies.

The Police K-9 Unit, Fire Service personnel, Parliament Marshalls, soldiers, Ambulance Service and several others have been deployed.

Adom News’ correspondent, Ohene Amponsah reported that, some MPs from both the Majority and Minority caucuses have begun trooping into the House.

The heightened security measures are in anticipation of the possible ‘showdown’ that will erupt in the House after the NDC MPS vowed to occupy the Majority seat following the declaration of four seats vacant.

The security measures have been designed to ensure a secure and orderly environment during parliamentary sessions.

On Monday, a statement signed by the Deputy Marshall of Parliament, WG CDR Frederick Bawa (Rtd) outlined enhanced security protocols which have been put in place.

The statement urged all MPs to comply with the enhanced security procedures, which require that they, along with staff and members of the press, undergo thorough screening before being granted entry into the Chamber.

This measure is intended to reinforce the Parliament’s security apparatus, ensuring that every individual entering the premises is properly vetted.

Meanwhile, bodyguards accompanying MPs will no longer be permitted to enter the Chamber.
