Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces have been spotted at the Parliament of Ghana ahead of Tuesday’s sitting.

Visuals shared by TV3 show military personnel in green military vans within the precincts of Parliament.

Several soldiers, some wearing masks, were seen moving through the precincts of the House.

The soldiers were also spotted entering the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), which is being used as a temporary chamber due to ongoing repair works at the main Parliament chamber.

Ahead of the sitting, the Chief Whip for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament, Kwame Governs Agbodza, issued a stern warning against the government’s alleged plans to deploy military personnel to the Parliament premises on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Agbodza claimed that certain elements within the government had met to discuss the deployment of the military to Parliament.

However, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has refuted the allegation.

It remains unclear under whose authority the soldiers were deployed, but the presence of military personnel has raised serious concerns, especially considering the incident on January 7, 2021, when military men stormed Parliament during the election of the Speaker.
