Sam George Sends Strong Warning To Supreme Court Judges After They Overturned Bagbin’s Ruling In Par

The member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Hon. Sam George, has issued a stern warning to the Supreme Court of Ghana following its decision to overturn Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin’s ruling, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant. This ruling has reignited concerns over the perceived influence of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the judiciary, with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) voicing discontent.

Addressing a gathering in the Volta Region during his campaign, Sam George expressed frustration with the judiciary, accusing it of being an extension of the NPP headquarters. He argued that the Supreme Court consistently sides with the NPP, undermining the fairness expected of the country’s highest judicial body. “The Supreme Court of Ghana should not be an extension of the NPP headquarters. The people of Ghana are fed up with the politics in our judiciary,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of judicial independence in maintaining democratic integrity.

His comments reflect growing disillusionment within the NDC, who believe that the judiciary is skewed in favor of the ruling party, creating an uneven playing field in Ghanaian politics. This sentiment has been exacerbated by recent legal decisions that appear to favor the NPP, particularly in matters relating to parliamentary disputes between the two major political parties.

Sam George, who also serves as the vice chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications, made it clear that the NDC would not remain silent. He asserted that the party would continue to defend the Constitution and challenge decisions they deem politically motivated. “As the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament, we will stand up and defend the Constitution,” he stated with resolve, reinforcing the party’s commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s democratic principles.

This clash between the judiciary and opposition underscores the tension between Ghana’s two main political parties as the nation heads toward its next elections. With accusations of bias on both sides, the integrity of Ghana’s democratic institutions remains under scrutiny. Sam George’s remarks serve as a rallying cry for the NDC, while also highlighting the broader debate over the independence of the judiciary and its role in upholding the rule of law.
