Former captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has shared a video on his X (formerly known as Twitter) page on October 16, 2024, following the Black Stars’ loss to Sudan in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In the video, the legendary player was in a vehicle, singing along to musician Wendy Shay’s hit song, “Holy Father,” which features Ras Kuuku.

The lyrics of the song imply that even though there are challenges and predicaments in the world, there is an angel who guides him through. Also, regardless of the happenings in the world, he needs an angel to watch over him for protection.

Social media users quickly took to the comment section of the post to commend Gyan for the role he played in the Black Stars team, which was thriving despite not winning a major trophy.

There were others who also described him as Ghana’s best player and wished that the team had a player of his caliber to solve the goalscoring problem hindering their progress.

During Gyan’s era, the Black Stars did not struggle with qualifying for tournaments, after making it to the World Cup and AFCON several times.

He retired from active football on June 20, 2023, to focus on grooming talents.
