Former Vice-President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has called on the current administration to remain patient with head coach Otto Addo, despite the Black Stars’ poor performance in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars have been winless in their last four matches under Addo’s guidance and are now at risk of missing out on the AFCON for the first time since 2004. Ghana currently sits third in Group F with only two points from a possible 12.Afriyie, however, believes the team should stick with Addo:
“I am not one of those who will say we have to sack Otto. We have to keep faith with him and make sure that he continues the process he has started because remember, we still have the World Cup qualifiers.
“He also suggested that the team should now focus on moving forward: “We have to give him the needed support. Going forward in this AFCON [qualifiers], let’s accept that we are out and allow Otto to take his decisions and learn on the job, and then we move forward.
“For Ghana to still qualify for the 2025 AFCON, they must win their final two matches against Angola and Niger in November while hoping Sudan, who are second in the group with seven points, stumble in their remaining fixtures.
Angola has already secured qualification with 12 points, while Niger is last in the group with just one point.
