‘HoodTalk Festival Promotes Youth Empowerment’

Prof. Linda Ofori

A member of DreamChild Foundation steering committee, Professor Linda Ofori, has indicated that the ongoingHoodTalk Festivalis a groundbreaking initiative focused on promoting child wellness and youth empowerment in Africa.

She revealed that HoodTalk Festival is an initiative of the DreamChild Foundation and the idea is to use music as a vehicle from one community to the other and to empower the youth by giving them the opportunities to practice their craft.

The music festival is also to draw attention to the challenges that exist in those specific communities as well as help in raising funds to solve the problems.

Launched on August 3, 2023 at the Wan-Shi Gardens at Asylum Down in Accra, the festival sought to create a platform to raise awareness to provide affordable paediatric care for underprivileged children, including girls.

It is also to motivate people to contribute funds towards the construction of five paediatric clinics in the country.

In a speech delivered at the music festival, Prof. Linda Ofori who is an Associate Professor at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), mentioned that HoodTalk Festival is being used to address the girl-child issues, youth economic empowerment and networking, as well as climate change, among others.

According to her, the HoodTalk Festival will help unite voices for the betterment of the African child and also help empower and support African children by harnessing the power of music and arts through community engagement.

She believes that DreamChildFoundation’s collaboration with Virtual Hub to host the music festival would make a lasting impact on the quest to ensure the quality of life for the youth is enhanced and protected.

The festival will also feature a Youth Summit, Fashion Show, Arts Exhibition and Mentorship Sessions across different cities in Ghana.

Over the past decade, DreamChild Foundation has delivered funds for many social interventions such as donations to the Korle Bu Children’s Hospital, Orphan Aid’s Oyibi Orphanage, and the Apam Special Needs School.
