Let Go Of Grudges Against Asante Bediatuo & Support Bawumia

Ghanaian lawyer, Maurice Ampaw, has passionately appealed to members of the ruling New Patriotic Party to forgive Asante Bediatuo and throw their weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections. On Wontumi TV, Ampaw addressed the growing discontent within the party, as some have vowed not to vote due to grievances against Bediatuo and other close associates of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

On his televised appearance, Maurice Ampaw declared that he had been fed with credible information of a faction within the NPP who felt quite hurt over the actions and utterances of Asante Bediatuo and Ken Ofori-Atta, former Finance Minister. According to Ampaw, those members swore on oath not to vote, a situation which could result in the party losing its cohesiveness and with it the prospects of the candidate, Dr. Bawumia.

Asante Bediatuo and Ken Ofori-Atta might have made some painful decisions or comments that affected you, but I’m pleading with all NPP members to find it in their hearts to forgive them,” Ampaw urged with emotion. He, therefore, explained that President Akufo-Addo had gone ahead to try to ameliorate the situation by sending Asante Bediatuo abroad on some diplomatic assignment and also relieving Ken Ofori-Atta of his ministerial portfolios, actions he described as having been taken to heal the rift in the party.

Ampaw, therefore, urged party members to focus on the future and support Dr. Bawumia as the next likely leader for the NPP. He explained that the Bawumia administration would be a new era, not tainted by the previous ones led by some individuals. “In just two months, the era of Asante Bediatuo will be over, and we will come into Dr. Bawumia’s era; he needs the full support of every NPP member to succeed. Let God deal with Asante Bediatuo and Ken Ofori-Atta; your role now is to ensure the party remains united and strong,” he added.

The fact that Maurice Ampaw’s plea has come in due time when NPP is heading into elections is apropos. The message of forgiveness and oneness that he has sent across reminds them that internal fights could mean defeat, which may be salvaged with reconciliation. But as the party navigates through these challenges, the question remains: will its members heed the call and rally behind Bawumia for a stronger, unified NPP?
