Sammy Gyamfi Corners Afenyo-Markin in Winneba

As the December 7 polls draw near, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) continues its campaign efforts across Ghana.

This year, the party has adopted a decentralized strategy, with national executives leading campaign activities in various regions.

Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, recently toured the Central Region, making a significant stop in the Effutu Constituency, currently held by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During his visit, Gyamfi was joined by Dr. Kofi Annan, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Effutu, to rally support for their joint campaign. Dr. Annan, a key figure in the constituency’s local politics, echoed Gyamfi’s call for change, emphasizing the need for fresh leadership that would prioritize jobs, infrastructure, and development for Effutu. His message aligned with John Mahama’s 24-hour economy vision, which they presented as a solution to Ghana’s current economic woes.

Dr. Annan’s presence underscored the importance of local representation in Parliament, and he took the opportunity to address concerns from Effutu’s constituents, promising to focus on their immediate needs. His collaboration with Gyamfi showcased a united front between the national and local NDC leadership.

The visit to Winneba was met with an enthusiastic reception, particularly from the youth, who voiced their dissatisfaction with the NPP’s eight-year rule, citing lack of jobs and economic hardship. Many viewed the event as a build-up to John Mahama’s anticipated campaign tour in the region, with Dr. Annan’s candidacy playing a crucial role in securing votes for the party at both the parliamentary and presidential levels.

Gyamfi’s and Dr. Annan’s presence in Effutu is seen as a strategic move by the NDC to challenge the incumbent and galvanize support ahead of the 2024 elections.
