I have now benefited from Akufo-Addo’s ‘Free SHS’ – Mzbel

Ghanaian musician Belinda Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for introducing the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has been beneficial to students.

She admitted that she was initially skeptical about the policy when she first heard of it, until recently, when she took someone to Achimota Senior High School after they gained admission.

The songstress revealed that after withdrawing funds to make payments, she was pleasantly surprised to discover that the government had covered most of the fees, and she only needed to purchase provisions and a mattress for the student.

Mzbel commended President Akufo-Addo for fulfilling his promise and expressed her gratitude for such a policy.

“I had been hearing about Free SHS on the radio, but I never believed it—until recently. I was taking my someone to Achimota School. I withdrew money to buy books and other essentials he would need, but when I asked the teachers, I was told the government had paid for everything, including books, school uniforms, admission fees, and others.

“I paid for the mattress and provisions, but it’s fine because parts of it have been absorbed. So Nana, you have honoured your promise. I am grateful to you,” Mzbel said in a video shared on X.

The Free SHS policy has been praised by sections of the public who believe it has provided access to education for the less privileged in society.

However, others, including politicians and educationists, have called on the government to review the policy to address the infrastructural deficit in schools.
