Tragic Accident On Accra – Kumasi Claims Many Lives, Others Injured

A tragic accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway at Atwedie, Ashanti Region, has claimed six lives and left several others injured. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 11, 2024, prompted a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
According to the GNFS PRO for Ashanti Region, the accident happened at approximately 4:56 AM and involved a Hyundai VIP bus and a Sprinter Benz transporting tomatoes. The Sprinter was completely destroyed upon impact, while the VIP bus sustained partial damage. The Fire Service shared the Information on their X official page at about 10pm.
The Fire Service Emergency rescue team were able to rescue 53 passengers onboard the VIP bus, who were unhurt. However, six individuals sustained severe injuries and were immediately transported to the Juaso Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Tragically, six people were confirmed dead at the scene. Their bodies were retrieved by the GNFS and handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
Per the report, the cause of the accident remains unclear, but authorities are conducting investigations to determine the events that led to the fatal crash.
The incident highlights the continuing danger of road traffic accidents on Ghana’s major highways and underscores the importance of safety measures to prevent such tragic occurrences.
