Ghanaian Doctor Arrested And Charged For Sexually Assaulting Female Patient

A Ghanaian doctor based in Canada (Oakville) is facing a charge of sexual assault, following allegations involving a female patient.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has confirmed that Dr. Clarence Clottey, 64, was working at Bristol Family Physicians, in Oakville, at the time of the alleged incident. Per reports from the authorities, the sexual assault allegedly occurred during a patient’s visit to the clinic.

On Tuesday, police arrested Clottey and charged him with one count of sexual assault. He has since been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Milton. The Investigators also released Clottey’s picture, expressing concerns that there may be additional victims yet to come forward.

Interestingly, Dr. Clottey has faced similar accusations before in the past. In January 2020, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) imposed restrictions on his practice after earlier allegations of misconduct and sexual assault charges. His first arrest on a similar case was in 2016, where he was accused of sexually assaulting six patients during medical examinations. The charges at the time involved inappropriate touching of female patients during clinical visits.

Despite the serious accusations, Clottey was acquitted of all charges in 2018. However, in 2019, he was arrested once again for allegedly sexually assaulting another female patient in 2014.

In response to the repeated allegations, the CPSO imposed strict restrictions on Clottey’s practice. He was prohibited from conducting breast, pelvic, or rectal examinations on female patients, and was required to refer such cases to another physician. Additionally, the CPSO suspended Clottey for a year, which took effect in 2017.

The latest charge has raised concerns about potential further victims, and police are continuing their investigation into the case.
