‘Your debate will not impact my campaign’

Ghanaian social commentator cum politician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has stated that his brand is larger than the media house Atinka FM.

A-Plus was invited to participate in the debate alongside incumbent MP Naana Eyiah Quansah of the NPP and Kwame Yawson of the NDC, scheduled for October 10, 2024. However, he has declined the invitation.

In an Instagram post, A-Plus, who is running for the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in Gomoa Central, asserted that the debate would not impact his campaign.

“I want to be clear: your debate will not affect my campaign and won’t provide any benefit to me,” he stated.

He emphasised that his brand surpasses that of Atinka FM, suggesting that if the media house wants him for the debate, they should compensate him.

“In fact, Kwame A-Plus has a larger following than Atinka FM! You need me; I don’t need you! My appearance would primarily attract sponsors and generate revenue for you, so please, pay me.”

He further stated, “The individuals featured on your flyer were relatively unknown until I entered the race. Who knew about Kwame Dean or Naana Eyiah before? My involvement has brought them attention, which they have not compensated me for. I will not continue to give them free exposure without receiving something of significant value in return.”
