‘I chose Highlife because we don’t have enough women in that genre’

Kumawood actress and now musician Mercy Asiedu has shared her reasons for venturing into highlife music.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the renowned actress stated that her choice was inspired by the lack of female representation in the highlife genre.

“I chose to do highlife music because we don’t have enough female highlife musicians in the country, apart from Akosua Agyapong,” she stated.

Mercy also emphasised her desire not to be limited to a single genre, which is why she combines highlife and gospel music in her work.

“Awurama Badu inspired my choice of music. I’ve been listening to her since childhood; she really inspired me, and I can say she is my role model. I am not stopping music anytime soon,” she added.
