Asante Kotoko Sporting Club IMC Member Kwesi Appiah has responded to CAF’s statement ordering him to temporarily step down as either Sudan national team coach or EXCO Member of the Ghana Football Association.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member and Sudan national team coach James Kwasi Appiah has officially written to CAF to step down temporarily ahead of Ghana’s pivotal 2025 AFCON qualification matches against Sudan on October 10 and October 14.
“Yes, I have responded to the CAF letter and I’m no longer an EXCO Member until November 30th”, Kwasi Appiah confirmed to Ghanasportspage.com.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Appiah’s dual role as both a GFA council member and Sudan’s coach has raised concerns over a “conflict of interest,” violating FIFA and CAF regulations.
In a letter addressed to Appiah, CAF has directed him to step down from one of his positions most likely his coaching role with Sudan until after the AFCON qualifiers.
Sudan currently sits second in Group F with three points, while Ghana is third with one point, following a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger.
Ghana will host Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday after CAF approved the venue despite Ghana’s struggles to secure a stadium meeting Category 3 standards for the fixture.
