Bernard Mornah Absent From 2024 Presidential Candidate List

The list of qualified 2024 Presidential Candidates is out and development, Bernard Mornah, the former Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), is not on it. The Electoral Commission, after conducting a thorough vetting process, confirmed only thirteen candidates who met the necessary legal requirements to contest in the election, and neither Mornah nor any PNC representative is included.

The confirmed list of candidates, which was announced following the filing period from September 9th to 13th, 2024, includes the following:

1. Mahamudu Bawumia – (New Patriotic Party)

2. John Dramani Mahama – (National Democratic Congress)

3. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen – (Independent Candidate)

4. Christian Kwabena Andrews – (Ghana Union Movement)

5. Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr – (Great Consolidated Popular Party)

6. George Twum-Barima-Adu – (Independent Candidate)

7. Nana Kwame Bediako – (Independent Candidate)

8. Akua Donkor – (Ghana Freedom Party)

9. Hassan Abdulai Ayariga – (All People’s Congress)

10. Kofi Akpaloo – (Liberal Party of Ghana)

11. Mohammed Frimpong – (National Democratic Party)

12. Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong-Koranteng – (Conventional People’s Party)

13. Kofi Koranteng – (Independent Candidate)

The absence of Mornah and the PNC from the 2024 race raises questions about the party’s strategy and potential challenges during the nomination process. Bernard Mornah has long been a prominent figure in the PNC and Ghanaian politics, making his omission from the list particularly notable.

Speculation has already begun as to whether internal issues within the PNC or procedural complications contributed to their absence. This marks a significant moment for the party, which has traditionally been a smaller but vocal part of Ghana’s political landscape.

As the official campaign season kicks off, the focus now shifts to the confirmed candidates. However, questions remain about the future of the PNC and its role in Ghana’s political arena.
