United Nation (UN’s) Resident Coordinator for Ghana, Charles Abani, has called for a concerted effort at fighting against illegal mining in Ghana.

He believes that all stakeholders must come together in a strong voice to kick against the menace which is destroying water bodies and forest reserves in the country.

A statement from the UN in Ghana also reminded protesters of the need to ensure their protest is peaceful and responsible.

Ghanaian Youth are on the streets of Accra to protest against illegal mining which is destroying water bodies in the country.

The youth have been protesting since October 3 to drum home the need for government to declare a state of emergency against galamsey.

Over 50 young people have been remanded for engaging in a similar protest which turned violent weeks ago.

There have been calls on the Police and the President to release these persons as their actions do not warrant arrest and subsequent remand.
