Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has put his campaign tour on hold due to an accident involving his team, bringing his regional campaign efforts to a temporary halt.
According to a report by Asaase Radio on Friday, October 4, 2024, Dennis Kwakwa, the former Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party communication director, and two others were involved in a near-fatal accident while returning from a campaign tour in the Asante Akim South Constituency.
This incident occurred on October 2, 2024, when their vehicle attempted to overtake an articulated truck near the Bomfa junction.
Thankfully, all three occupants sustained injuries but are now recovering after receiving medical attention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
“It was the 22nd constituency we had visited. Just a few meters from Odumasi, near Konongo, before reaching Bomfa Junction, we were traveling in a convoy of six vehicles.
A vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction, and the fourth vehicle in our convoy managed to avoid a collision.”
“However, Dennis Kwakwa, who was driving the fifth vehicle, had to take evasive action. In the process, the truck clipped the back of his vehicle, causing him to lose control, and it ended up in a ditch.

They were taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they received treatment and have since been discharged. Fortunately, none of them sustained any injuries or bruises”, Amponsah said.
Chairman Wontumi’s campaign tour has been temporarily suspended following an accident involving his team, marking the second such incident involving a party official as the election campaign heats up.
The chairman has assured constituencies yet to be visited, including Atwima Mponua and Juaben, that he will resume his tour once the suspension is lifted.
This incident has caused a brief pause in the campaign, but Wontumi remains committed to connecting with voters in the remaining constituencies.
Richard Ahiagbah, the communication director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), was involved in a vehicle accident in July at Duapompo, near Konongo in the Ashanti Region, but has since made a full recovery and been discharged from the hospital.
Notably, neither emergency services nor security authorities have issued official statements regarding this incident or the recent accident involving Dennis Kwakwa, former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP.
