Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has stated that despite the dominance of judges appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the various courts, he is optimistic the judiciary will support his effort to tackle corruption among public officeholders in his next administration.
Mahama vowed to investigate what he termed as questionable sale and acquisition of state lands under the Akufo-Addo-Mahamudu Bawumia regime as part of his proposed Operation Recover All Loot initiative.
Addressing the Clergy in Accra on Tuesday, October 2, Mahama believed the judges would be guided by their conscience in adjudicating the aforementioned cases.
“As for High Court judges, just yesterday [Monday], he [President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo] was swearing in another 21. And it gives the impression that the courts are being packed for exactly the reason you are talking about, that once they appoint the judges, if cases involving accountability for abuse of public office come before the judges, because they appointed them, they would leave them off the hook. We will do our parts.
“We will let the anti-corruption institutions work and my trust and belief is that our judges will do the work that they have been appointed to do. They should look at the cases impartially and let justice prevail.”
