2024/25 GPL: Asante Kotoko beat Nsoatreman to go second

Asante Kotoko secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nsoatreman FC in an outstanding match, which sends them to second place in the Ghana Premier League standings.

After a quiet first half with half chances, the game came to life in the second half.

The Porcupines broke the deadlock just two minutes after the restart, with Elvis Kyei-Baffour rising highest to meet Dauda Daaka’s cross, giving Kotoko the advantage.

Midfielder Fernando Bassey had a chance to extend the lead after a quick one-two with Emmanuel Antwi, but the Nigerian’s effort hit the side netting.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Daniel Moo was shown a second yellow card, leading to his dismissal in the 79th minute.

The outstanding match was initially set for Matchday two, has to be rescheduled following Nsoatreman’s involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup – been eliminated by CS Constantine.

It’s a victory that coach Prosper Narteh Ogum will gladly take after back-to-back draws in the previous two matches.

Kotoko will look to maintain their unbeaten start when they welcome Accra Lions on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Nsoatreman will face Legon Cities in their next fixture, hoping to return to winning ways.
