The Parliament of Ghana is set to reconvene on October 15, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for its fifth meeting of the fourth session.
This temporary relocation is necessary due to the ongoing renovation works in the main chamber of Parliament, which has been the usual venue for parliamentary sessions.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, stated on September 30, 2024, notifying Members of Parliament about the reconvening of the House.
This development comes after a two-day emergency sitting at the Dome, where Parliament approved a $250 million loan agreement from the World Bank to support the Ghana Energy Sector Recovery Programme.
Notably, this facility was initially disapproved before the parliamentary recess and was a key reason for the recall of Parliament on September 3.
Renovation Works and Parliamentary Sessions
The renovation project aims to upgrade the Chamber’s infrastructure, including improvements to working tables, chairs, and other essential furnishings.
This upgrade will enhance the legislative body’s daily operations and provide a more conducive environment for lawmakers.
Previous Sessions and Key Decisions
In previous sessions, Parliament has addressed various critical issues, including the approval of loan agreements and debates on national development.
The fifth meeting of the fourth session is expected to tackle pressing matters, including legislative business and committee reports.
