NDC Constituency Chairman, two others granted bail

The Cape Coast Circuit Court 2 presided over by Her Worship Veronica Praba Tetteh has granted bail to Alhaji Mohamed Kassim the National Democratic Congress Party chairman for Gomoa West and two others who were arrested for disrupting the inauguration of the District Road Improvement project (DRIP) machines in Gomoa West.

The three were slapped with misdemeanour charges according to lawyer Eric Offei, the Acting Central Regional Secretary of the NDC.

The matter has been subsequently referred to the Alternative Dispute Resolution for amicable settlement and report back to the court on October 18, 2024.

The chairman and two other accused persons were granted a bail of GHC20,000 to reappear again on October 18, 2024.

“The Gomoa West constituency chairman Alhaji Mohammed Kassim and two others including an NPP party member were brought before the Cape Coast Circuit court 2 presided over by her worship Veronica Praba Tetteh.

“Interestingly when the three were asked if they were guilty they denied being guilty and as a party we support them. The constituency chairman and two other accused persons were granted bail of twenty thousand cedis. We also prayed the court to refer the matter to the Alternative Dispute Resolution and the court granted same so we will go and deal with the matter amicably and report same to the court on October 18, 2024.

On Monday, September 16, 2024, confusion erupted after the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West Richard Gyan Mensah and some party supporters besieged the premises of the District Assembly during the launch of the DRIP equipment.

He questioned why posters of the NPP Parliamentary candidate Bismark Basie Nkum were pasted on the machines.

This led to an altercation between supporters of both parties disrupting the process.

The DCE Bismark Basie Nkum also accused the Member of Parliament for the area Richard Gyan Mensah of brandishing a pistol during the confrontation which he (MP) denied in subsequent interviews with the media.

Party supporters of the NDC who spoke to the media after the release of the chairman said it’s a victory for the NDC.
