Mr. Jean-Michel Arlandis addressing drivers
Vivo Energy Ghana has launched the second edition of its Fit2Drive Driver Education and Wellness Programme.
The launch, held at the Neoplan Station, Odawna-circle was in collaboration with transport partners S. O. Frimpong, J. K. Horgle, and J. K. Ahiadome Transport, along with the National Road Safety Authority and Hollard Ghana.
Vivo Energy Ghana Managing Director, Jean-Michel Arlandis, said the initiative launched last year, has evolved into a movement aimed at educating drivers on road safety while enhancing their physical and mental well-being.
Speaking on the event themed, “Your Health, Your Wealth,” which underscores the importance of health as a driver’s most valuable asset, Mr. Arlandis acknowledged the crucial role timely and safe transportation of goods and people plays in driving economic growth.
He highlighted that drivers often overlook the personal health challenges due to the demands of their profession. “Maintaining your health is not just an individual responsibility; it is in the interest of all,” he stated.
He said the Fit2Drive programme equips drivers with essential tools for leading healthier lives, covering topics from regular health screenings to stress management techniques.
Mr. Arlandis also highlighted the health insurance component of the Shell loyalty club for drivers, stating that it offers peace of mind in medical emergencies through a partnership with Hollard Insurance.
“By joining the Shell loyalty club, you are not only securing your rewards but also prioritizing your health and that of your family,” he encouraged.
Corporate Communications Manager, Vivo Energy Ghana, Shirley Tony Kum said the Vivo Fit2Drive programme aims to empower drivers to take control of their health, fostering a brighter and more secure future for themselves and their communities.
“After this educational engagement, we will conduct health screenings for drivers. In addition, Vivo Energy Ghana will distribute thermometers, glucometers, and blood pressure readers to transport unions in participating regions to facilitate personal healthcare,” she said.
She said this year’s initiative will reach over 1,000 commercial drivers across five regional capitals: Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Koforidua, and Techiman.
NRSA Acting Director General, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, advised drivers to limit their speed when plying the road as the recorded cases of road accidents keep increasing.
“It is an election year and we need to be very careful as to how we drive and use our roads. Let’s minimise the cases of road accidents to save more lives,” he added.
