Kumasi, Sept. 20, GNA – The Kumasi Metro Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has honoured final year students of Opoku Ware School and St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School who were members of Civic Education Clubs (CECs) in the schools.
The Commission presented each member with a certificate in appreciation for the patriotism and voluntarism they exhibited during their stay in school.
The formation of CECs in Basic and Second Cycle Schools is to instill patriotism in students as a strategy to promote nationalism among young people destined to take over the mantle of leadership in the future.
It also seeks to encourage students to embrace Ghanaian values so they do not depart from the rich cultural heritage which define our nationhood.
Mr. Kofi Agyare Boateng, the Metro Director of NCCE, who led a team of officials to the two schools, applauded them for accepting to be part of the clubs voluntarily.
He said being part of the clubs meant they had the potential to grow into responsible citizens.
He charged them to continue championing the need for citizens to uphold their civic responsibilities even as they left school.
Also, they must serve as agents of change in their homes, communities and everywhere they find themselves.
As the 2024 election approaches, Mr. Boateng urged the students to encourage their peers eligible to vote to exercise their franchise as citizens.
He thanked them for their roles in sustaining the clubs in their respective schools, saying that the NCCE cherished their contributions.
