Bawumia Sure Of Victory In Nzema

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has over the past seven years built a very solid relationship with the chiefs and people of the Nzema area in the Western Region.

He said this was evidenced in the number of developmental projects the current government has initiated and other ongoing ones.

He has, therefore, expressed confidence that the chiefs and people of the Nzema area will give him the opportunity to serve as the next president of Ghana, to enable him execute more developmental projects.

He also called on the residents to vote for all the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidates in the Nzema enclave, including Catherine Abelema Afeku of the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency.

Dr. Bawumia was speaking at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Axim to climax this year’s Kundum festival over the weekend.

The Vice President, therefore, went ahead to tout the numerous projects the people of Nzemaland, particularly those in the Nzema East Municipality, have received.

He mentioned that not long ago, President Nana Akufo-Addo was in the area to cut sod for the commencement of a petroleum hub, which will create over 700,000 jobs, adding, “Local content will play a major role.”

“I urge the youth of Nzemaland to guard the project with their hearts and minds to ensure it successful completion. Job creation and prosperous Nzemaland is all we want,” the Vice President added.

“My vice presidential candidate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, was also here recently and Nananom requested for a VVIP ward at the Axim Government Hospital. We promise that it would be done in collaboration with Ghana Gas Company,” he disclosed.

The NPP presidential candidate noted that the sea erosion, which was causing havoc and destroying livelihoods in the Axim area, had been solved with a state-of-the-art sea defence wall constructed by the government.

He said in order to save motorists in the entire Nzema area the time and money of travelling all the way to Tarkwa or Takoradi to renew their driver’s licence, the current government has constructed a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office complex at Ayisakro near Axim for easy accessibility.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that the government has also completed a digital premix fuel station at Apewosika, near Axim for the fisherfolks.

He said the government has constructed a stadium at Axim, which would soon be commissioned. He also mentioned that a mini fishing harbour, which is currently under construction in the Axim area, is about 85 per cent complete.

“A 2,400 per hour capacity gas bottling plant under construction in the area would soon be completed, and the jobs to be created is huge,” he told the chiefs and people.

He said under the current government, many town roads have been constructed in Axim, adding, “A completed Customer Service and District Office for the Electricity Company of Ghana by the government is also here.”

“These and many more attest to the fact that the NPP government has solidified its relationship with the chiefs and people of Nzema and Axim in particular. So we need your support in this year’s general election,” he stressed.

He commended the traditional leaders for the successful organisation of this year’s Kundum festival, and promised to work with all the five paramountcies in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency.

Speaking on behalf of former President John Mahama, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) contributed to the construction of the Axim sea defence project.

“By the time we left power, the feasibility studies have been done and funding secured for the project,” she stated.

She indicated that the NDC also constructed the Municipal Fire Service Station for the people of Axim.
