The Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Alhaji Alhassan Farihan, has donated 2,000 bags of cement to support the construction of the New Gbewaa Palace in the Dagbon Kingdom.
The Dagbon Kingdom, one of Africa’s oldest and richest cultural entities, is currently building an ultra-modern palace to better reflect its heritage and prestige.
The current Gbewaa Palace, where the Yaa Naa—the king of Dagbon—resides, has been deemed inadequate for the kingdom’s stature, prompting calls for a new, befitting edifice.
As a proud son of Dagbon, Alhaji Farihan said it is the responsibility of all natives to help preserve and promote the kingdom’s esteemed legacy.
Presenting the donation receipts to the palace committee on Monday, April 28, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the successful completion of the project.
He also called on all sons, daughters, and well-wishers of Dagbon to contribute towards the initiative.
The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Alhaji Farihan for his generous support, underscoring the cultural and historical importance of the project.
Following a tour of the construction site, Alhaji Farihan expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far and pledged to continue supporting the project.
Public Relations Officer for the Gbewaa Palace, Musah Yakubu, also conveyed gratitude to the GCB Managing Director, expressing optimism that the donation would significantly boost progress on the project. He further appealed to other benevolent organisations and individuals to come on board and support the noble cause.
The new Gbewaa Palace, upon completion, will serve as a unified seat for all future Yaa Naas, regardless of lineage, strengthening the unity and heritage of Dagbon.
