Dr George Smith-Graham, Acting CEO of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission
Ghana is set to establish an Independent Emoluments Commission by the end of 2025, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has announced.
Speaking to the media, Dr George Smith-Graham, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the FWSC, said the move is aimed at ensuring fair and transparent compensation across the public sector.
According to him, the establishment of the commission will address longstanding concerns about salary disparities among public sector workers and help rebuild public trust in the country’s remuneration system.
Dr Smith-Graham emphasised that the planned commission will operate independently, free from political influence, and will be tasked with reviewing, setting, and regulating salaries and allowances for public officials.
“This is a significant step towards restoring fairness, equity, and accountability in public sector pay. We are committed to ensuring that the commission is fully operational by the end of 2025,” he said.
Calls for a more structured and impartial salary system have grown louder in recent years, with many stakeholders arguing that inconsistencies and lack of transparency have undermined morale and efficiency within the public sector.
