Dr Louisa Hannah Bissiw and Gloria Owusu
Dr Louisa Hannah Bissiw, the National Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the Member of Parliament for Trobu, Gloria Owusu, over her remarks about President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Gloria Owusu accused Mahama of disliking women in the country, following his suspension of the current Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Torkonoo.
Responding to these accusations in an interview on Neat FM on April 25, 2025, Dr Bissiw argued that President Mahama is one of the most supportive leaders of women, more so than any other president.
She credited him for appointing the first female Vice President in Ghana’s history.
Dr Bissiw further stated that the Trobu MP is either being hypocritical or lacks the facts to make such accusations against Mahama.
“The Trobu MP is a child, I mean, she is even a child in parliament and hasn’t even spoken in parliament before,” Dr Bissiw remarked.
“Mahama is the only president who has nominated a woman for the first time as a running mate. If he takes a lady as a running mate or Vice President, then it means she is a potential president. He is the first president to appoint a lady to such a role.
“He is also the first president to appoint a woman as Minister for Justice and Attorney General, and the first president to appoint a woman as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
“So, if you wake up today and claim that he doesn’t like women, then you are being hypocritical or don’t have the facts.”
