NPC President congratulates new GOC Executives

National Paralympic Committee (NPC) President Samson Deen has sent heartfelt congratulations to Richard Akpokavie on his election as the new President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and its executives.

Akpokavie polled 44 votes, beating his contender Michael Aggrey’s 19 votes.

Saturday’s victory marked a turnaround in fortunes for Akpokavie, who lost the presidential bid four years ago by seven votes to then-incumbent Ben Nunoo Mensah.

In other election results, Evans Yeboah was elected new Treasurer of the GOC, winning by a 3-vote margin.

Mohammed Muniru, Ghana Swimming’s General Secretary, was elected GOC General Secretary, beating Cycling President Mohammed Sahnoon by 3 votes.

The newly constituted GOC Board includes George Lamptey, Delphina Quaye, Kamal Sulley, Richmond Quarcoo, and George Tettey.

“It is time to reset, rebrand, and transform the mindset of the sports family — aligning with the sports business model that demands discipline, credibility, and professionalism,” Deen said in a statement released.

“To the delegates and the entire Ghana Olympic Family: you are the true winners. Your choice of leadership reflects a bold move away from biases and a strong commitment to a brighter, united future.

“I have witnessed a GOC election that chose the future over sycophancy and treachery.

“Special congratulations to my good friends, Secretary General Muniru Kassim and President-Elect Richard Akpokavie. Also, congratulations to Evans Yeboah, elected Treasurer of the Ghana Olympic Committee and Vice President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee.

“Now is the time to unite the Olympic Family and work with everyone to build a stronger, more credible sporting nation.”
