The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Dr Ebenezer Prince Arhin, has called on the management of the Ho Teaching Hospital to look beyond government support and leverage their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) more effectively.

His call came during a nationwide assessment tour by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, which encouraged the hospital to also explore public-private partnerships (PPP) to enhance productivity and address infrastructure gaps.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Arhin referenced other hospitals visited during the tour, noting their successful use of IGF to procure equipment and materials.

“Ho Teaching Hospital can replicate the success we have seen in other facilities by adopting similar measures,” he noted.

The MPs’ remarks were followed by a presentation by Dr Simon Dzokoto, Director for Research, Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the hospital.

Dr Dzokoto highlighted the facility’s infrastructure challenges and noted that the IGF was often used to repay borrowed resources, leaving little for development.

In response, committee members encouraged the hospital to adopt best practices observed at institutions like the Koforidua Regional Hospital, particularly in the strategic use of IGF and engagement in PPPs.

Team 3 of the committee includes Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey (MP for Keta), Alexander Akwasi Acquah (MP for Akim Oda), Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah (MP for Garu), Dr Prince Ebenezer Arhin (MP for Mfantseman), Hottordze Roosevelt Alexander (MP for Central Tongu), and Mohammed Sherrif Abdul-Khaliq (MP for Nanton).

Their weeklong tour covered several major health institutions, including the Kumasi Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
