Zoomlion Ghana Limited has distanced itself from illegal mining activities involving equipment bearing the “Zoomlion” name, stating categorically that it has no affiliation with the operations or ownership of the machinery being used in such activities.
In a statement issued by its Communications Directorate, the company clarified that while some excavators and other mining equipment involved in illegal mining—popularly known as galamsey—bear the name “Zoomlion,” they are not the property of Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
“We wish to unequivocally state that Zoomlion Ghana Limited is not engaged in, does not support, and has never participated in any illegal mining activity, including galamsey,” the statement read. “The company does not own, operate, lease, or authorize the use of any equipment for mining purposes.”
The company explained that the equipment in question was manufactured by Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese firm entirely unaffiliated with Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
The similarity in names, it noted, has led to a false association between the two entities.
Zoomlion Ghana emphasized that any use of such equipment in galamsey operations is being done without its knowledge, consent, or approval. It urged the public and regulatory bodies to disregard any misrepresentation of its involvement.
