Players of Real Madrid during a game
Tensions are boiling over on the eve of the Copa del Rey final, as Real Madrid have reportedly cancelled their training session, pre-match press conference, and the traditional club dinner with Barcelona, all in protest against the match officiating.
According to multiple sources, including El Chiringuito, the Madrid camp is furious about the appointment of the referee for Saturday’s highly anticipated final.
The club had requested a change of referee, but their plea was rejected, igniting a wave of backlash that now threatens to overshadow Spanish football’s biggest fixture.
In a further sign of the growing rift, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has refused to attend the official dinner with Barcelona—a strong gesture that underscores the seriousness of the club’s discontent.
According to El Chiringuito, Real Madrid could pull out of the final entirely, although no official confirmation has been made. The Spanish Football Federation has yet to respond publicly, while Barcelona have remained silent, preparing as scheduled for the final.
If true, Real Madrid could face serious sanctions from the Spanish Football Federation, including fines, disqualification from next season’s cup, or more severe penalties.
