Ghanaian broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere has leveled accusations against the newly appointed Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Acher, for allegedly masterminding the arrest of Adu Boahen, the former Director General of the National Signals Bureau.

On the Tuesday, April 22, 2025, edition of the Good Evening Ghana program, Adom-Otchere asserted that Acher had convinced President John Dramani Mahama and Attorney General Dominic Ayine to pursue Adu Boahen despite the absence of solid evidence in the alleged corruption case.

“Since Kwabena Adu Boahen was released and allowed to return home, investigations into his case have quietly continued. According to updates from his legal team, things have taken an unexpected turn, suggesting that Raymond Acher, EOCO boss, may have misled everyone involved in the case.

“It appears that Acher might have been operating independently, setting his own agenda and pushing a narrative that has now raised eyebrows, even within EOCO itself,” he said.

He added, “This situation is particularly troubling because, after Adu Boahen and his wife were detained for three weeks, the Attorney General held a major press conference, confidently announcing that the state had concluded its work on the case.”

Meanwhile, Adu Boahen’s legal team, led by Samuel Atta Akyea, has refuted attempts to portray him and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, as common criminals.

Mr. Atta Akyea maintained that Mr. Boahen, a former high-ranking official with extensive international connections, and his wife, a successful businesswoman, should not be subjected to public ridicule and unjust treatment.

The legal team highlighted that a suspect is not an accused person until the facts are thoroughly compiled through investigations and formalized into a docket after the suspect is formally charged.
