Ghana holds Memorial Mass for late Pope Francis at Holy Spirit Cathedral

A government delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and joined by religious leaders from various Christian denominations, including a representative of the National Chief Imam, gathered at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on Friday, April 25, for a solemn mass in memory of Pope Francis.

Pope Francis, who  served as the Bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church after ascending to the papacy in 2013, following the resignation of his predecessor, Benedict XVI, was announced dead by the Vatican on April 21

The Vatican confirmed his passing in a statement issued by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who said, “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis.”
In remembrance of the final sermon ahead of the pontiff’s burial, which is scheduled to take place at the Vatican on Saturday, April 26, a heartfelt prayer, hymns, and moving tributes, were shared as Ghanaians joined the rest of the world in mourning the loss of the Catholic Church’s spiritual leader.
