Akufo-Addo not responsible for NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat

The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Masawudu, has strongly dismissed allegations that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was responsible for the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The former President has faced criticism from some NPP supporters following the party’s heavy loss in the elections.

Speaking in an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday, April 25, Alhaji Masawudu rejected such claims, stating, “Many Ghanaians, even some of our political party members, think that this kind of defeat the NPP encountered in the 2024 elections, some of them attributed the defeat to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. In my view, it’s the wrong direction, it’s wrong thinking.”

He argued that the former President should not be blamed for the party’s defeat simply because certain promises were not fulfilled.

Alhaji Masawudu further stated that the NPP would run its 2028 campaign on the achievements of former President Akufo-Addo.

“It is the same former President Nana Addo Dankwa who has done a massive job for Ghanaians in the health, road sector and infrastructure as a whole. The party’s campaign will be based on his achievements,” he stated.
