A large crowd gathered at the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi on April 23, 2025, to warmly welcome the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as he returned from a short break abroad. The King took this break after leading a successful year-long celebration marking his reign in 2024.
The welcoming ceremony was a grand one, with traditional leaders and key public figures present. Some of the notable names included Nana Otuo Sereboe II, the Juabenhene; Asafohene, Akyeamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu; Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi; former Manhyia South MP, Matthew Opoku Prempeh; DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjo, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander; and Brigadier General Matthew Opoku of the Central Command.
After his arrival, the first place Otumfuo visited was the palace of Nana Konadu Yiadom II, the Asantehemaa—his traditional mother. Following the customs of the Asante people, he greeted her and exchanged pleasantries as a sign of respect and unity.
The King, now refreshed and full of energy, is ready to take on a busy year. According to a statement from the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo will resume his role as a peacemaker in the Bawku chieftaincy conflict. This mediation will take place from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, with both sides expected to attend.
In addition to that, Otumfuo will be involved in many important events, including the 25th Anniversary fundraising of his Foundation and the Millennium Excellence Awards. He will also deal with many traditional matters before the Kumasi Traditional Council and the Asanteman Council, where he serves as the head.
