Ebi Bright has been appointed as the Tema Mayor
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Ebi Bright as the Mayor of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
She was the parliamentary candidate for Tema Central in the just-ended 2024 general elections.
Before her appointment, some youth from Tema stormed the premises of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, demanding that an indigene be appointed as mayor instead of Ebi Bright.
The protest was marked by the burning of car tyres and the rhythmic beating of drums, aimed at sending a strong message to the authorities.
“We are here with heavy hearts to register our displeasure,” the group said.
“We are hearing that Ebi Bright is to be made the Mayor of Tema, but that is not going to happen. She wasn’t even part of the whole process, so why are they bringing her in as mayor? This is something we do not understand,” they said.
However, Ebi Bright’s team responded, stating that she is a true member of the Tema community.
She lost the parliamentary election to the NPP’s Charles Forson after initially being declared the winner in the first round of counting.
