A grandson of the popular musician, late Comfort Omoge, Prince Ogo Omoge, has been attacked and killed by a scavenger in Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
- It was gathered that the deceased was attacked by the scavenger with a dagger during an undisclosed matter, which led to an argument and confrontation between them.
A source disclosed that the scavenger, who attacked the late Prince along the Ayeka/Igodan-Igbokoda expressway in Okitipupa, slit the deceased’s throat with a dagger, leaving him to bleed to death.
He stated, “The argument escalated into a violent confrontation and the assailant brought out a dagger and cut the throat of the deceased.
“There was a minor disagreement between Prince Omoge and the scavenger. What started as a small issue quickly spiraled out of control.
“He was brutally killed, and the attacker fled the scene immediately afterward. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead by medical personnel.”
The development caused tension in the community, prompting residents and community leaders to organise a search party to fish out the suspect.
Speaking on the gruesome killing of Prince Omoge, the Chairman of the council, Andrew Ogunsakin, said a coordinated effort between residents in the area and security agencies led to the arrest of a suspect, identified as Machido Abubakar.
Ogunsakin, who commended the quick response of the security operatives who were able to locate, arrest, and detain the suspect within hours of the incident, said his administration is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
Ogunsakin, who called for calm, urged residents of the communities within the local government to remain law-abiding. He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and promised them support in their pursuit of justice.
The council chairman also met with local leaders, including representatives from the Hausa/Fulani community, traditional rulers, and youth groups, to foster a commitment to peace among residents.
Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka, said the suspect has been arrested and is in police custody.
Ayanlade said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. One suspect has been arrested and is currently being held in custody.”
