The National Organiser of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Yaw Asani Tano, has alleged that powerful individuals, including traditional leaders and religious figures, are working behind the scenes to secure the release of former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, and other officials linked to financial misconduct as reported by Ghana Web.
Boahene was arrested in March 2025 at the airport upon returning to Ghana.
He is accused of misappropriating over GHC 30 million during his leadership at the NSB between 2017 and 2025.
His wife, Angela Boateng, was also detained after visiting him in custody. Both face formal charges over the embezzlement scandal.
According to Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, the couple used illicit funds to acquire multiple luxury properties locally and abroad.
Among these are several high-value estates at Mayfair Estates in Accra, with individual deposits ranging from $97,815 to $1 million.
During a discussion on UTV’s Breakfast Show, Asani Tano expressed concern over reported attempts by influential figures to derail the legal process.
“There are allegations that some powerful chiefs are trying to intervene in Kwabena Adu Boahene’s case. I am hearing they are claiming that Adu Boahene is their nephew,” he said.
He also warned against allowing such interventions to undermine accountability, stressing that ordinary citizens continue to suffer due to mismanagement and lack of public resources.
Asani Tano called on the government to resist pressure and uphold justice, declaring that the public will not accept impunity for those found guilty of corruption.
