“They Sang Hosanna for Bawumia, Now They Call Him a Failure” – Kwesi Pratt Fires at NPP Critics

Veteran journalist and political commentator, Kwesi Pratt Jr., has voiced strong concerns over what he sees as a sudden and dramatic shift in loyalty among New Patriotic Party (NPP) members regarding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as reported by Ghana Web.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on April 15, 2025, Pratt questioned how individuals who previously championed Bawumia’s candidacy are now at the forefront of criticizing him.

He described the turn of events as shocking, especially coming from prominent party figures who once hailed Bawumia as the ideal choice to lead the NPP into the 2024 elections.

“It’s the same people who were singing Hosanna for him who are now the loudest in their condemnation,” Pratt said, expressing disbelief at the shift in narrative.

He singled out Deputy Communications Officer Ernest Owusu-Bempah, who has recently blamed Bawumia for the party’s defeat, calling into question the consistency and motives of such critics.

Pratt found it particularly troubling that these figures, once defensive of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, have also begun pointing fingers at him for the NPP’s loss.

Pratt also referenced party stalwarts like Boakye Agyarko, who have advocated for a return to the party’s foundational values, while others push for Kennedy Agyapong to take the reins of leadership.

In the 2024 general elections, the Electoral Commission declared John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as president-elect with over 6.3 million votes. Bawumia secured just over 4.6 million, marking a significant loss for the NPP.

Pratt believes the party’s current internal divisions could derail any hopes of regaining power in the near future if not urgently addressed.
