No need to release Black Stars budget now

Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, has rejected calls for the immediate release of the budget allocated to the Black Stars for their matches against Chad and Madagascar.

Amid growing public demands for transparency and accountability in the sports sector, there have been increasing calls for the government to disclose expenditure on the national football team.

However, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, the minister stated that it would be inappropriate to release the budget at this stage.

“You will know it when the time comes. I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National Team ceased playing? We have the next assignment in September; we have matches that we’re going to play. And we will surely make it public,” he said.

Adams clarified that the current budget remains a working draft, and releasing it prematurely could lead to unnecessary speculation and misinterpretation.

“It will be unfair to make a draft budget public, I’m not hiding it,” he emphasized.

He assured Ghanaians that full disclosure will be made once all national team activities are completed.

The minister also guaranteed there would be no delay in the budget presentation for the Black Stars’ upcoming fixtures.

“There’s no way I’m going to allow the Ghana Football Association to delay in presentation of a budget for the September round of matches,” he affirmed.
