Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will resume his mediation efforts in the Bawku conflict from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
This was contained in a statement dated Tuesday, April 15, 2025, and signed by the Manhyia Palace.
“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi,” the statement noted.
It further called on all key stakeholders to collaborate in restoring peace in Bawku.
“Asantehene requests all stakeholders to cooperate so we can find lasting peace in Bawku,” it added.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama said the Asantehene had assured him of his commitment to reconvene stakeholders and continue the peace dialogue upon his return from a brief visit abroad.
“We have triggered the Otumfuo mediation process, which saw all stakeholders participate in discussions in Kumasi on a roadmap toward peace. I am assured by the Asantehene that the process will commence next week when he returns from his brief visit abroad,” the President announced.
He urged all parties to renew their commitment to peace, adding, “I entreat all sides to embrace peace as we dialogue to resolve these age-old disputes.”
He also recounted the recent violence in Bawku, where an incident in a marketplace just two days earlier led to the loss of life and destruction of property.
The Bawku conflict, rooted in longstanding ethnic and chieftaincy disputes, has claimed many lives over the years.
