Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has made her first public statement following her recent medical leave. On Friday evening, she shared a message on social media acknowledging her Chief of Staff’s participation on her behalf at the graduation ceremony of officer cadets from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
This marks the Vice President’s first communication since her sudden illness, which led to her being admitted at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) before receiving further care in the United Kingdom. Earlier in the week, the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, assured the public that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was in stable condition and taking a brief period of rest abroad as advised by doctors.
In her message, the Vice President congratulated the graduating cadets and emphasized the importance of their role in national development. “Your duty as protectors of our borders and contributors to revenue growth is crucial to Ghana’s progress,” she wrote. She praised their commitment, discipline, and service, especially in times when national self-reliance is essential.
She offered special recognition to the Best Overall and Best Female Cadets, expressing confidence that their careers would bring honour to themselves, the GRA, and the country at large. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s return to official duties is expected soon, as she continues to recover.
