Govt prioritising job creation locally and abroad

Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to reducing youth unemployment by creating job opportunities both locally and internationally.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, April 9, Pelpuo stressed the importance of equipping young Ghanaians to find employment regardless of location.

“This term is to reflect the promises we made to the youth, to get them to understand that it’s possible to get them jobs,” he said, adding, “If it’s not in Ghana, it can be somewhere else. So, we’re creating that circumstance of job creation. I’m building confidence in them to know that they can work both in Ghana and outside Ghana.”

Pelpuo also mentioned ongoing engagements with other ministries and agencies to ensure job availability for young people.

“I’m linking up with various ministries and agencies to make sure that if jobs are available in their places, they should be up for young people,” he said.

As part of international efforts, the minister said discussions are ongoing with foreign governments interested in Ghanaian labour.

“I’m also having discussions with governments who are outside Ghana, who are interested in migrating labour from Ghana, creating a condition of labour transfer to them.”

To support this agenda, Pelpuo recently launched the “Ghana World Abroad” programme, aimed at facilitating employment for Ghanaian youth overseas while easing local unemployment pressures.
