CJ Writes Protest To International Embassies As Her Key Allies Start To Distance Themselves – KT

Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo is reportedly facing increasing isolation and resistance from within the judiciary as pressure mounts over petitions seeking her removal from office. According to US based Ghanaian journalist Kevin Taylor, the Chief Justice is struggling to retain her position, with key allies allegedly distancing themselves from her.
Kevin Taylor claims that Justice Avril Anin Yeboah of the Supreme Court recently declined a request from Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo to empanel judges for a Supreme Court sitting scheduled for Wednesday. In a memo cited by the journalist, Justice Avril allegedly refused the task and urged the Chief Justice to handle it herself.
The situation appears to have worsened internally, as Kevin Taylor suggests that the once-expected unanimous bench decisions—often referred to as 7:0 clichés—are no longer guaranteed. Some of the Chief Justice’s closest allies are reportedly abandoning her in the wake of the petitions.
Adding to the reported fallout, her judicial Secretary is said to have quietly resigned last week. Kevin Taylor claims the outgoing official questioned why the Chief Justice couldn’t smell the coffee—an apparent metaphor for ignoring clear signs of political or institutional discontent.
In what appears to be her final move of resistance, the Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo is said to have written protest letters the embassies of the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada this morning, raising concerns about her removalÂ
These developments, if confirmed, mark a significant moment of turbulence within Ghana’s judiciary, with possible implications for the credibility and stability of the judicial system.
