Alabaster Box threatens to sue Medikal over “Welcome to Africa” copyright

Renowned Ghanaian music group Alabaster Box has threatened to take legal action against Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, over allegations of copyright infringement regarding his song “Welcome to Africa.”

The group, through their legal representatives Sustineri Attorneys, has accused Medikal of unlawfully sampling their hit song *”Akwaaba”* without authorization.

In a formal notice addressed to Medikal, Alabaster Box claims that the opening seconds of his song bear significant resemblance to their copyrighted composition.

They argue that Medikal’s actions amount to the creation of a derivative work that violates their exclusive rights.

The group further alleges that Medikal’s familiarity with their music suggests intentional infringement.

The notice details that *”Welcome to Africa”* has been widely promoted on digital and traditional platforms, including Medikal’s verified YouTube channel, where the song has garnered over 72,000 views. Alabaster Box insists that this promotion unfairly exploits their intellectual property for economic gain.

The group has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the song from all platforms, cessation of its public performance and marketing, and the submission of all related agreements and financial accounts.

Failure to comply may result in legal proceedings, including a court injunction and claims for damages.

Alabaster Box has reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding their creative rights and protecting their long-established reputation in the music industry.
