Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, expressed her displeasure over the National Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not holding her scheduled hearing on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Speaking to the media at the NPP headquarters, where the hearing was supposed to take place, the former MP lamented her treatment by the party.

She asserted that summoning her and then not holding the hearing was inappropriate.

“Being summoned to appear means that you have done something untoward and you’re going to be disciplined. That is exactly what a disciplinary committee hearing is for. So why ridicule me in public and come here and tell me that the committee is not even sitting?

“The message you sent to the whole of Ghana is that I’ve done something untoward and I’m coming here to be disciplined – a senior member of this party, a former deputy majority leader, a former cabinet minister, a former minister of state, three-term Member of Parliament – and this is how I’m ridiculed.”

She added, “You come and there’s nobody there to sit because the case is bogus or there’s no finding of anything.”

The former MP suggested that the disciplinary committee summons were unnecessary, arguing that the matter could have been handled more appropriately.

Background:

According to reports, the disciplinary committee postponed the hearing for Sarah Adwoa Safo, citing scheduling adjustments and internal considerations.

The party assured her that a new date and time would be rescheduled and communicated accordingly.

Adwoa Safo’s appearance before the disciplinary committee stems from an alleged violation of a party directive that bars members from discussing sensitive party matters in the media.

Her remarks on Joy News’ Pulse show on March 20, 2025, were deemed by party leadership to contravene this directive.

“I bring you warm greetings from the national secretariat of the party. Further to our earlier correspondence dated 24 March 2025, with reference number NPP/HQ/GS/2025/24/03/DC, inviting you to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on Monday, 7 April 2025, we wish to notify you that the said hearing has formally been postponed,” a letter quoted by the media stated.

The committee expressed its appreciation for Adwoa Safo’s cooperation and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding the values of fairness, due process, and procedural integrity in all its deliberations.
