Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reiterated the government of Ghana’s commitment to deepening bilateral trade and attracting foreign direct investment to accelerate Ghana’s transition to a single, stable, export-driven economy.
Delivering a special address at the ongoing two-day (7 -8 April, 2025) Commonwealth Trade & Investment Summit in London, organised by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), the Minister told an audience of international investors, diplomats, and trade officials that “today’s engagement will settle any doubt in your mind” about the opportunities in Africa and Ghana in particular.
“Some of you may be well‑acquainted with Africa’s promise, while others may still be weighing final investment decisions. I am fully convinced that this engagement will help settle any doubt in your mind and deepen bilateral trade opportunities among ourselves,” she said.
Forecasts
Ms Ofosu-Adjare said that, drawing on recent forecasts from the World Bank and the African Development Bank, Africa’s economic outlook remains robust and promising. She stated that the World Bank projects Africa’s GDP to rise to 4.1 percent in 2025 and further to 4.4 percent in 2026, driven by ongoing economic reforms, a decline in inflation, and improvements in fiscal and debt management.
The trade minister further noted that the African Development Bank’s outlook is equally optimistic, stating that effective policy implementation and a more favourable global economic environment will drive the continent’s recovery. She said this positions Africa as the second-fastest-growing region in the world, with forty countries, including Ghana, expected to record higher growth rates compared to the 2023 outlook.
She said, “In view of these positive indicators, my government will intensify economic diplomacy to transition Ghana into a single, stable economy driven by vibrant exports, trade, industrialisation, and foreign direct investment.”
She called on potential investors to take advantage of Ghana’s strategic location, business-friendly environment, and ongoing reforms aimed at improving regulatory efficiency and competitiveness.
Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said Ghana stands ready with open arms and transparent policies and called on all stakeholders to join hands in forging partnerships that will not only accelerate economic growth but also deliver lasting and inclusive development for all.
