Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency Mustapha Gbande at the scene of the arrest
National Security operatives have reportedly arrested Nigerian businessman Ben Peters at the Aurora Apartments in Kanda, near the Jubilee House.
According to a report by citinews.com, the businessman was arrested together with some of his associates in a joint operation by National Security operatives, personnel of the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
The report indicated that the operation was led by the Director in Charge of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, and the Deputy Director of Operations at the Office of the President, Mustapha Gbande.
It indicated that the Nigerian businessman’s arrest was prompted by reports of him blocking the entrance of the apartment with his vehicles, with the help of some armed men, denying other residents access.
In addition to the arrests, the vehicles of the businessman were seized by National Security.
Mustapha Gbande, the Director of Operations at the Presidency, condemned the action of Ben Peters.
“He has blocked the place such that no individual can go in or come out.
“Nobody can come into our country and take our people into this ransom. It is illegal and unlawful. This cannot be done in Nigeria and certainly not in this country,” he is quoted to have said at the scene of the arrest.
The report indicated that the businessman refused arrest for several minutes and went into hiding.
The security officials managed to arrest him after Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, the brother of President John Dramani Mahama, showed up at the scene.
