A fire broke out at the Tamale Taxi Rank in the early hours of Wednesday, 2nd April, 2025, causing panic among residents and traders. The blaze, which started unexpectedly, spread quickly and engulfed several containers at the site before firefighters arrived.
According to reports, the Ghana National Fire Service received an emergency call about the fire at around 5:35 am. A team of firefighters was dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene within ten minutes. Upon arrival, they found parts of the taxi rank in flames, with thick smoke filling the air. They worked swiftly to put out the fire and managed to bring it under control by 6:05 am.
Eyewitnesses said they saw flames suddenly emerging from one of the containers, and within minutes, the fire had spread to nearby structures. Some traders and taxi drivers at the rank tried to douse the fire with buckets of water before the firefighters arrived. Others quickly moved their belongings to safety to avoid losses.
At the moment, authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. It is not yet clear whether it was due to an electrical fault, a gas explosion, or any other factor. Fire officials have urged traders and business owners in the area to be cautious and ensure that all electrical connections and flammable materials are properly handled to prevent future incidents.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. However, the fire has destroyed valuable goods, and some traders have suffered heavy losses. Affected individuals are appealing for support from the government and other organizations to help them recover from the disaster.
