Renowned journalist and lawyer, Samson Lardy Anyenini, has revealed what Sam George said on his show about the real estate business in Ghana.
The Ningo-Prampram MP, in an earlier interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile, alleged that some individuals use real estate as a cover-up to clean ‘dirty money’ obtained through illegal activities. According to him, people buy and sell properties among themselves to convert illegally acquired money into legitimate wealth.
Reacting to this, Samson Lardy Anyenini took to his Facebook page on Monday, 24th March, 2025 and shared a brief but thought-provoking message. He wrote:
“Pray – ‘Real Estate business in Ghana is money laundering’ – Sam George claims
“Yeah, he should have posted a caveat. What ought to be done to avoid the plenty washing through real estate?”
His reaction suggests that Sam George should have included a disclaimer or provided more evidence to support his claims. He also raised an important question about what measures should be put in place to stop the alleged money laundering in Ghana’s real estate sector.
Sam George’s statement has generated discussions on the transparency of real estate transactions in Ghana. Many people believe that the rapid rise of expensive properties, especially in prime areas of Accra, is suspicious. Some argue that the pricing of houses is unrealistic compared to the average income levels of Ghanaians.
Critics say that without proper financial tracking and strict regulations, real estate could become a major channel for corrupt politicians and businesspeople to hide illicit funds. Ghanaians are eager to see whether the government will take action to address the issue. Many believe that failing to regulate the sector properly could lead to further financial crimes and worsen corruption in the country.
